About Swamp Fox Society
| The Swamp Fox Society, Children of the American Revolution is organized under the Florida Society CAR and is part of the National Society C.A.R., the nation's oldest, largest, patriotic youth organization, that offers membership to anyone under the age of 21, lineally descended from someone who served in the Continental Army or gave material aid to the cause of freedom in the American Revolution. As part of the National Society of the Children of the American Revolution, Swamp Fox trains good citizens, develops leaders and promotes love of the United States of America and its heritage among young people. |

The society was formed in 2001, sponsored by the local Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution societies and officially organized 25 January 2003. It has quickly gained notice at the National Society Children of the American Revolution by becoming the fastest growing society in the nation within its first year and the fastest growing new society in the nation (ok, so we were the only new society that year). Since then, the society has consistantly been a leader in our state by continually winning many contests that we will elaberate later in the accolades page.
The society was named after General Francis Marion who was nicknaked the Swamp Fox by British Col. Barastre Tarleton. who called him the "old swamp fox". General Marion is considered one of the fathers of modern guerrilla warfare, and is credited in the lineage of the United States Army Rangers in his use of quick strikes against the enemy's supply lines reducing the effectiveness of British forces aginst the Continental Army under the command of General Greene who was moving through the back woods area on his march through South Carolina.
